Our Story | Whole Foods 4 Health Plant-Based Journey

In the spring of 2020, my husband Will and I made a decision that changed our lives forever—we transitioned to a plant-based lifestyle.

At the time, we were facing some serious health concerns. My otherwise healthy triathlete husband was recovering from colon cancer, and I had gained 55 pounds over four years with no clear explanation. We were scared, searching for answers, and beginning to recognize the impact our diet might have been having on our health.

Like many families who suddenly found themselves quarantined, we decided to start a vegetable garden. That little backyard project quickly grew into something much bigger. Soon, we were experimenting with microgreens, creating new plant-based recipes, and filling our kitchen with fresh, seasonal food.

From Scare to Healing ✨

Our shift to plant-based eating had an incredible impact:

  • Within four months, my weight returned to normal.

  • Will became cancer-free and regained his energy.

  • Our college-age boys—who had been living on corn dogs and Captain Crunch—started joining us at the table and admitted that the plant-based meals tasted great!

  • Both of them even described feeling a new sense of “lightness.”

  • As a family, we noticed improved moods, more energy, and a greater sense of overall well-being.
